Tata Electronics Expands iPhone Manufacturing With Pegatron Acquisition, Foxconn, Samsung, Vivo

Under this deal, the teams of Tata Electronics and Pegatron will be integrated. Apart from this, there will be rebranding of Pegatron. Tata Electronics Said that this acquisition will strengthen its position as a leading company in the electronics manufacturing sector of the country. Recently Tata Electronics had received approval from the Competition Commission of India to buy this stake. Last year, the company had purchased the business of Wistron, another contract manufacturer of Apple, in the country.

Taiwan’s Pegatron factory is near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. There are about 10,000 workers in this factory. It manufactures approximately 50 lakh iPhones annually. Apple’s largest contract manufacturer in the country is Taiwan’s Foxconn. The smartphone market in the country could be worth more than $50 billion (about Rs 4.2 lakh crore) this year. This market is expected to grow by six percent on a year-on-year basis. The trend of Indian customers has increased towards premium smartphones. Due to this, the smartphone market is increasing in terms of value. Along with this, export of smartphones from the country may also increase.

According to the report of market research firm Counterpoint, the average selling price (ASP) in the smartphone market in the country this year may exceed $ 300 (about Rs 25,900). This will be a major reason behind the smartphone market exceeding $50 billion. This market was worth approximately $38 billion (approximately Rs 3.2 lakh crore) in 2021. In the last few years, sales of premium segment smartphones of Apple, OnePlus and Samsung have increased rapidly. This report states that customers are now preferring smartphones in the premium and ultra-premium segments. Apple and Samsung are two major companies in this segment. Demand may be higher for Pro models of Apple’s iPhone series.
