Women make up about half of all gamers, but only about 15% of characters in games are women. But otome games make women the full focus. These are story-based romance games where you play as a female protagonist. Typically a goal of these games is to romance another character, and Crunchyroll recently added an otome title to its Game Vault.
Anime streaming service Crunchyroll announced Wednesday that it added two mobile games to its Crunchyroll Game Vault library, and it plans to add another by the end of March. Crunchyroll Game Vault offers Mega and Ultimate subscribers more than a dozen games, like Evan’s Remains and Victory Heat Rally, but Crunchyroll plans to add more games — including some exclusive titles — to the service before the end of the year.

Destiny’s Princess: A War Story, A Love Story
In this otome game, demons have attacked your castle and killed everyone you know. As the demons are about to kill you, you make a contract to go back in time to save your castle with the help of five heroic figures from the Warring States period of Japanese history. Ys I Chronicles
This classic action RPG was released more than 30 years ago, and subscribers can experience it all over again on mobile. You play as Adol Christin, who sets off to uncover what happened to the land of Esteria after a storm appears around the island. You’ll fight grotesque monsters, uncover secrets from hundreds of years ago and figure out what happened to Esteria.
Ys II Chronicles
After you’ve played Ys I Chronicles, you can continue the adventure in this sequel. This game picks up right where the original left off. You’ll once again take control of Adol Christin in the floating land of Ys and battle dark forces on a quest to uncover the secrets of the ancient civilization.
What to know about Crunchyroll Game Vault
Here’s how to access games on Crunchyroll if you’re a Mega or Ultimate subscriber:
1. Open the Crunchyroll app.
2. Scroll to the Crunchyroll Game Vault section.
3. Tap the game you want to download, and you’ll be taken to the game’s page in either Apple’s App Store or the Google Play store.
4. Then download the game like you would any other app.
Crunchyroll launched Crunchyroll Game Vault in 2023 as an additional perk for Mega and Ultimate subscribers. The service offered members five games at launch, like the fighting game River City Girls and the puzzle game Inbento, and it has added more since then, including Hime’s Quest and ExZeus: The Complete Collection.
Crunchyroll is one of the latest video streaming services to offer games with a subscription. Notably, Netflix began offering games to its subscribers in 2021. All Netflix subscribers can access the service’s games library, while only the top two Crunchyroll subscription plans — Mega and Ultimate, but not Fan — provide access to the Crunchyroll Game Vault.
