If true crime and stories based on sensational real-life news are what you crave, you’re in luck: This week’s new drops on all the major streaming platforms feature plenty of BOATS content. (That’s “based on a true story” for the uninitiated.) On Hulu, you can catch Good American Family, a dramatization of the Natalia Grace case, and on Max, you can familiarize yourself with the polarizing story of Karen Read, a woman on trial for allegedly killing her boyfriend, in A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read.
Meanwhile, on Netflix you can catch the new mystery series The Residence, starring Orange Is the New Black’s Uzo Aduma, and the new South Korean psychological thriller Revelations, from the creators of the supernatural fantasy series Hellbound.
And for something a little lighter, a little more… gravity-defying… Wicked is arriving on streaming this week, so if you haven’t seen it yet, now’s the time.
These titles and many more are arriving on streaming soon. Here’s all the info you need to tune in this week.

Best new TV shows and movies to stream
(March 17 to 23)
Netflix
Netflix’s new mystery The Residence is sure to be a fun ride. The show’s eight episodes focus on a murder investigation after a mysterious death occurs at a state dinner at the White House. Uzo Aduba plays the detective in charge, Cordelia Cupp, as she investigates the staff and personnel who work on the grounds. The cast is filled with incredible comedians and character actors, including Ken Marino, Jane Curtin, Giancarlo Esposito and Randall Park. Andre Braugher was originally cast in Esposito’s role, as the White House’s chief usher, but Esposito was cast after Braugher’s untimely death in 2023. The show is set to arrive on Netflix on March 20.
Yeon Sang-ho and Choi Gyu-seok, creators of Netflix’s thrilling Hellbound series, have returned with their latest project, a feature-length film called Revelations. The flick, executive produced by Alfonso Cuarón, is set around the investigation of a missing person. As a local pastor, Sung Min-chan looks into the crime with the desire to punish the perpetrator, and the detective on the case, Lee Yeon-hui, is plagued by personal trauma that also affects his investigation. Ryu Jun-yeol, Shin Hyun-been and Shin Min-jae star in the film, which is scheduled to arrive March 21.
Hulu
Good American Family (March 19)
Good American Family, which stars Ellen Pompeo and Mark Duplass, is a Hulu limited series based on the real-life story of Natalia Grace. The story of Grace, an adoptee with dwarfism who was the subject of allegations that she was an adult posing as a child, has been told in several documentaries, and gets the made-for-TV treatment in this version. Two episodes of the series are set to premiere March 19, with new episodes arriving weekly after that.
Anora, the Sean Baker-helmed film that swept this year’s Oscars, is one of the lowest-grossing Best Picture winners at the box office, but hopefully its arrival on Hulu will get more eyes on it. The film, about a sex worker (Best Actress winner Mikey Madison) who marries the son of a Russian oligarch and gets pulled into some tragicomic family drama, arrives on Hulu on March 17.
Peacock
Wicked and Wicked Sing-Along (March 21)
The John Chu–directed Oscar-winning phenomenon Wicked will be available to stream exclusively on Peacock, and in addition to the regular movie, you can also watch a sing-along version, too. Just make sure your windows are closed when you try to hit Cynthia Erivo’s high notes. Both versions of the movie arrive on Peacock on March 21.
Max
A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read (March 17)
If you haven’t yet heard of Karen Read, this new series on Max and Investigation Discovery can serve as your introduction. Massachusetts resident Read has spent the past few years of her life declaring her innocence after being accused of killing her police officer boyfriend and leaving his body to freeze in the snow. Depending on who you ask, she’s either a stone-cold killer or was framed for a murder that was actually perpetrated by members of the police force. The three-episode series will bring national attention to a case that has sparked lively debate all across New England since 2022 and prompted the #FreeKarenRead movement.
Paramount Plus
Thirsty for even more true crime? Paramount Plus has one more entry in the “based on a true story” genre this week, with the premiere of Happy Face. The series stars Annaleigh Ashford as Melissa Moore, the daughter of Keith Hunter Jesperson, a serial killer also known as the Happy Face Killer (Dennis Quaid). Based on Moore’s podcast, Happy Face, the show finds Moore struggling to reconcile the fact that the caring man who raised her was responsible for killing several women.
